Madhubani painting
Madhubani art paintings are also known as the Mithila paintings and they are popular as an art form in Bihar and Nepal. Though the exact origin of this art form cannot be traced but it is as ancient as the age of Ramayana in the 7th century. This art is mostly kept alive by the women folk artists and as per history, the king of Nepal, Janaka commissioned the local artistes to paint Madhubani murals during his daughter Sita’s wedding to Lord Rama. This art form at present mostly takes inspiration from nature and mythology. They have a lot of bright colors in it and one can get to see paintings of birds, animals, flowers and various geometric patterns. If one wants a painting full of colors on their walls then they must go for this form of paintings.
Pattachitra
This art form is more than 1000 years old and it has its origin in the states of Orissa. The word ‘patta’ means canvas and ‘chitra’ means picture or painting. This art form follows a few themes like the depiction of Jagannath Temple (of Puri), the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu, Krishna Lila and a few more. Most of the pattas are made from tamarind paste and then it is used to hold to pieces of clothes which is again powdered with a coat of soft clay. Mysore painting
This is a South Indian art form which comes from the Vijaynagara School of painting. The art form became popular in Mysore and hence the name. This art form has survived through years and they mostly deal with mythological stories when it comes to paintings. This art flourished the most under the rule of Tipu Sultan. If one wants a mythological touch in their living room walls then they can go for these paintings.
Tanjore painting
Also known as the Thanjavur paintings they have their origin in the Maratha court back during 1676. The major characteristics of these paintings are glitter gold foils, rich colors and glass beads along with some semi precious stones.
